STORY IDEAS - 1974 MUSTANG
- Fits and Finishes - major story or series of stories. S. M. Frey the man assigned to follow this personally. Mustang may epitomize what Ford had been trying to accomplish with all its car lines in recent years.
- Moving a car down in size and price (if base price of 1974 is lower than 1973). Major story or series of stories. Mustang may be the first car ever to embody this concept. Pattern in the industry has been to do just the opposite. But "bigger is not always better."
- Design of the new horse logo. Designer who worked up the new horse is a real student of horseflesh. His name is Charles Keresz, an ex-equestrian from Hungary.
- Ford classic cars - list them and illustrate them. Try to establish the new Mustang as an "instant classic."
- Shortened lead time. Used to be three years; original Mustang got it down to about 18 months. How long for the 1974? Shorter lead time made possible by use of computers to solve complex engineering problems, to test the durability, and to help machine new dies.
- Product improvements in the 1974 vs. the 1965 Mustang. List them and total them. Possible that this car will offer more improvements and innovations than any car since the first Mustang. Also, product improvements over the 1973 model.
- First power steering option for rack-and-pinion on a U.S. car, and one of the few in the world (Jaguar and Aston Martin previously, for example).
- The dream interior - Dave Ash was asked to design the very finest interior possible. The final interior of the new Mustang is very close to his dream interior. Use sketches, photos of the dream interior and of the finished product to show similarity. (Film story as well as text and photo story.)
