Car of the Month - November 2005 - Special Dedication
Mike Schondorfer's 1977 Cobra II
In memory of Michael P. Schondorfer Sr.

My first car in 1989. It was on the road till 1992. Then put in storage until 1999. Due to a lack of money and resources. The car was pulled out of storage in 99 and the restoration began. The speedometer showed just over 125,000 mi. Needless to say it needed some work. The car was gutted as far as possible. Just short of a frame off restoration.

Suspension was rebuilt first: new leaf springs, bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, rotors, calipers and lines. When rolling again. Sheet metal work next: paint striped, rust either cut out or blasted, rough sheet metal welded in, then a coat of etch primer.

Then it needed a tune up: battery, water pump, alt, radiator, heater core, new top end gaskets, carb rebuild, plugs, wires, hoses and on and on... It was running and rolling. In the fall of 01. Off to the body shop. A coat of epoxy primer next, block sand, more primer, block sand, block sand, more primer.

Well it looked ready for paint to me. Block sanded one more time just in case. 2 Months later. Ready for paint finally! Shot in all PPG base clear. Then dry, yes, I said dry sanded and buffed. Then reassembled. Back on the road in april 2002!!

Almost stock outside. I'm still working on that one. Snakes are a bit off, rockers need to be buffed one more time before the decals are applied, missing the front bumper trim, and the black scoop "oop's". Stock interior. Under the hood: 85 Gt. roller motor, 93 t-5 tranz, holley 650 dbl pump, edelbrock f4b manifold, msd ignition, headers flowing to a pair of supertrapps. A new stroker motor is in the works and a traction-loc rear for 2003.

Although the list is long of all those who helped. You know who you are! THANKS!
